For the love of driving

We took the plunge a few months ago and added a 1971 classic 911 RSR recreation to the GTTourz garage.

Well its a classic, its nearly as old as me! It was launched off the production line in 1971, but its not going to be a matching numbers style classic, that gets stored in an air tight bubble to be driven 50 miles a year!

This old girl is a project, and we intend to add to its history, its not quite a daily driver, but we intend to clock-up some memorable miles every year, all that after we have converted her into a more user friendly, restomod style cafe racer, come posh track car.

It’s along time since we got to experience a proper drivers car without any nanny driver aids that has plenty of theatre, and this one is certainly chalk and cheese, compared to the much more modern, computer assisted, track and recce cars, that it will sit alongside in the GTTourz garage.

To be honest we were sold after our first drive, we were just smitten with the rawness and fell in love with the feeling of some proper driving again, that you have to concentrate, and the induction noise is just to die for. It’s a real experience, that certainly takes us back to the very early days of our rallying career, when we campaigned a 2.4 ltr MK2 on the BTRDA Championship in the early 90’s.

We would love to have her in the garage already, but we are currently in the process of having the car interior refreshed to match the beauty of the outside, to the restomod, cafe racer style we were looking for. Thankfully that work is now well underway after all the parts have been sourced, at Porsche specialists WilliamsCrawford Restoration in Saltash .

Running gear, wise the car has not had a penny spared (spec below), and it certainly felt like it on our first drive. We are updating the 15” Fuchs wheels to a more modern and tyre friendly 17” Fuchs so we can get some modern Michelin Pilot Sport tyres on the car, and lastly we are changing the sticker design to give her a more modern look as well.

Our plan for the future is to arrange a classic / restomod tour, but first off, we will sort some drive days in and around the South West, before we venture further afield in search of that real old school tour experience.

So if you own a classic / restomod Pre 90’s keep your eye on the website and social media for events.

The advert for the car sold it to us really, and thankfully our neighbours love cars!

This Porsche RSR - Beauty is more than just skin deep. It’s one to make your spine tingle and the the noise will certainly make the neighbours notice and Fast…? Oh yes!” Adrian Crawford, WilliamsCrawford Restoration.

    • Recently completed on an early 70’s shell, so an era correct F series base to start out, and that theme continues throughout the car.
    • It sports a very nice Bainbridge built motor giving over 270hp (dyno sheet available) with big valves, Wosner pistons, twin spark ignition and authentic high butterfly MFI (mechanical fuel injection) that alone is a fortune.
    • Quaife Limited slip.
    • Closer ratio 915 gearbox with cooler & Wevo shifter.
    • Heavy duty engine mounts, sat right on raised spindle Bilsteins with Delrin bushes.
    • 930 Turbo rear arms and 26mm torsion bars.
    • RSR spec (930) brakes.
    • 15″ Braid Fuchs RSR (8 front and 10 rear) with Michelin TB15.
    • Properly ducted oil cooler under the nose, GRP bonnet and engine cover.
    • Centre fill tank and frankly not much else…no ABS, no nanny aids, it’s raw!

We cannot wait to pick her up, hopefully in early April in readiness for some spring fun in the sun, keep an eye out for updated pics soon
