The Green Card scheme will now be a legal requirement until governments decide if this is going to continue long term.
Simply means, if you drive from the UK to the EU, you’ll need to take a Green Card with you, to prove that you have valid insurance on the actual car you are taking with you on the tour.
So what is a Green Card… It is basically evidence that you have appropriate car insurance cover for when you’re driving abroad. It is traditionally printed on a green piece of paper and shows which countries you have valid car insurance for, but don’t worry about having to purchase green paper, you are allowed to have it PRINTED on white paper! The point being it must be a printed copy of the document, the authorities will not accept an electronic copy, so please ensure you carry this along with the other documents in your can.
Driving licence, Insurance cover note, registration document for your car & the Green card along with the items you need to carry in the car, such as Breathalyser in France, warning triangle high vis jackets, and GB sticker.
Please Note: You must apply for a new Green card from your insurer for each and every trip you make into any of the European countries we travel to on our tours.
Insurance companies will issue and post a physical copy of the Green card to you, so make sure you allow enough time to apply before the tour departs, some require up to a month to issue and send it to you and you may need it to cross borders etc.
