For the love of driving

The NC500 is Scotland’s answer to Route 66. It’s a jaw-dropping round-trip drive through incredible Highland scenery, with this year’s event using a similar route to the one we ran for SCC in late 2021, but in an anti-clockwise direction for 2022.

Leaving the first night’s hotel in Dunkeld, we headed up one of the best stretches of road to be found in the highlands, the infamous Old Military Road through Glenshee and on towards Balmoral on route to a quick tour of the Tomatin Distillery, a co sponsor of the official timekeeping partner of SCC, Jacobs & Co.

Leaving the distillery it was onwards to Inverness where we joined the NC500 route and headed up the Eastern coastal roads, taking in the views of the North Sea on route to Thurso.

The following 3 days saw the members really enjoy some of the best driving roads to really get to know their cars on roads that they are built to perform on with ease! These included the challenging West Coast roads over to probably the most photographed spot on the NC500, the Kylesku Bridge. The roads included some challenging sections of single track that offer lochs and vistas to make you brake to standstill and grab the camera to capture those digital images.

It’s hard to pick highlights from the 3 days on the Scottish West coast as there are just so many great sections of tarmac mixed in with scenery that simply takes your breath away at times, but for us, the road down to Kylesku bridge coupled with the section leaving the bridge are a fantastic couple of driving roads that need to be experienced if you ever find yourself in this part of Scotland!!

Following a final night in Inverness where the members enjoyed a superb Whisky tasting hosted by Tomatin, the members enjoyed a bank holiday weekend luxury package at one of Scotland’s best luxury hotels nestled on the side of Loch Lomond, Cameron House Hotel & Spa.

The weekend kicked off with a final day’s drive down to the hotel on our well proven route across the Cairngorms that includes a great mix of A and B roads that make for a great day of driving that challenges both the car and driver one last time!

The package included a Skyfall photo shoot that was managed brilliantly by the official club photographer and the team to ensure the members had a fantastic memory of the tour on canvas to cherish forever.

The package included 2 nights at Cameron house to enjoy the full facilities the hotel had to offer, as well as a 4 x 4 adventure, led by some amazing kilted drivers, who took the members into the depths of the Scottish Highlands above Loch Lomond. They got to experience some proper off-road driving on genuine tracks through the woods and forest that are used daily by the game keepers on the estate, an experience that everyone thoroughly enjoyed!

Keep your eye out on the web site for our future events in Scotland, it’s well worth a visit if you haven’t had a chance to enjoy your car up in the Highlands, you may well wonder why you waited so long to visit once you have experienced what Scotland has to offer.
