Matts 50th Tour was a private 9 night road trip for just 10 cars, that was a complete carbon copy of the previous weeks Tour Des Pyrenees 2023, other than we left on a Sunday and not the Wednesday.
There was a big reason for that as we had managed to secure rooms in a regular hotel we use on the side of the oldest street circuit in the world in Pau, for what turned out to be the last historic racing there will be for the foreseeable future!
Having completed the same eight routes the previous week, it gave us the chance to really enjoy these fantastic mountains all over again! The roads in the Pyrenees simply offer drivers some of the best driving in Europe, hence the name Matt came up with for his own 50th birthday tour, Pyrenees Perfection!
The route did throw up a few different challenges though to keep everyone on their toes, most notably blizzard conditions on the accent up one of our favourite passes in the Pyrenees. It was certainly very strange weather, on the other side of the mountain the temperatures were back up in the high twenties!
The cars were a great mix from all the manufacturers with pretty much every marque represented, so it was always a real treat to look back in the mirrors and enjoy seeing either an Italian or German horse or Jaguar and even an Italian bull called Huracan, all were special in their own way and dealt with the surroundings perfectly.
Well, almost all of us managed to deal with it and complete the route!
