For the love of driving

The second week of May 2023 was the start of this years adventures in the Pyrenees, but unlike our 2022 Pyrenees & Alps we opted to stay in this driving mecca and explore everything these mountains have to offer.

Eight routes, across nine days, fine tuned to deliver some of the best driving that can be found in Europe for lovers of driving!

The tour kicked off in Santander after the relatively fast boat (22 hours) from Plymouth, before the 12 cars embarked on a 1750 mile route through this picturesque mountain range, always promising breathtaking vistas to compliment the great roads.

Just 30 minutes after leaving the port the guests were stretching their legs at the top of the first pass which gave them a real taste of what was to come on the tour.

Leaving the summit of the first pass it was onto the Spanish gateway to the Pyrenees, Gorraiz, on the outskirts of Pamplona for the first nights stay. This was the perfect location for the guests to relax, before the next few days enjoying the phenomenal roads on the Spanish side of the mountains, on route to the beautiful Hotel Camiral, a proud member of the leading hotels of the world club.

The second part of the week heading back west to the costal town of Biarritz included an overnight stop in Andorra, which was sadly in the clouds and meant the beautiful passes of this little tax haven were left un-conquered on this trip! We will be back in the future!!

Pau was the next stop on the Tour Des Pyrenees, where everyone enjoyed a 2 night stay, so they could choose to either enjoy some time out of the drivers and passengers seat, or take on the scenic drive out to Lake Faberge for a few hours.

Following a light lunch at a quaint French cafe at the base of a pass, it was time to take on one of the best circuits we have had the pleasure of taking on anywhere in Europe. The circuit at Pau is a little gem that offered the guys, and gals in fact, a chance to exploit their cars even more with a private 2 hour session. Needless to say this was many peoples highlight, and if you’re in the area and looking for a real challenge on track this place is for you. It has everything!

Leaving Pau it was time to head for the coast and the final nights group dinner on the shores of the French surfing capital in Biarritz, before an early morning departure on the final days route to the ferry.

The event was a blast, and we had some really positive feedback from everyone on the Tour Des Pyrenees 2023 event which we have shared some of below.

This poem, put together while most were sleeping on the final night by Chris, was a lovely highlight that really did bring a tear to our eye and sums up everything we truly love about this business!

In the heart of the Pyrenees, where landscapes unfold, A tale of adventure, a story untold.

GTTourz, the name that echoes through the air, a car touring company, beyond compare.

With engines revving, they set off on their quest, In Porsches, Ferraris, Aston Martins, and the rest.

Mark, the maverick, nearly faced the law, but his spirit was fearless, without a flaw.

Hamish and Luke, with no trace of fear, conquering mountains, their laughter sincere.

Nick, on his virgin tour, nerves on the rise, yet soon found solace, beneath azure skies.

Two Neil’s, both roaring in their 6-litre might, unleashing their power, day and night.

Ian, in his yellow chariot, bright as the sun, a beacon of joy, a sight to be won.

And gentleman Chris, in the DBS he’d steer, with elegance and grace, his presence sincere.

And Graham, oh Graham, a proud Cornish soul, his spirit beaming, making the journey whole.

Franck, the Frenchman, with his beret askew, a poet’s soul within him, forever true.

Hooligan Dave, on the track, his arse out, yet the GT3 reigned supreme, there was no doubt.

Deli belly Alan and Sharon, blasting away, with their spirits high, come what May.

A great bunch of guys, with friendships formed, through twists and turns, their bond transformed.

So raise a glass to camaraderie so rare, to GT Tourz, the memories we forever share,

With Ferraris, Porsches, and Aston Martins at heart, Our journey continues, a masterpiece of art.
