Ruta del Sol '25
Picos | Estrela | Andalucia
Wednesday 23rd of April | Arrive at Plymouth approx 2:00pm: Meet up in Plymouth for the 22 hour ferry crossing on board Pont-Aven to Santander in deluxe cabins. Please note the tour cost also INCLUDES a group dinner with wine and water in the Pont-Aven’s main restaurant, so everyone can get together to renew or make new friendships whilst chatting about their cars and the next 7 days on the roads of Ruta del Sol.
Thursday 24th April | 4 hour drive 260km: Disembark the boat in Santander at 1:00pm. As we want to include as many great roads as possible on this tour, we have planned a route across the Picos de Europa to Leon, but it’s all dependent on how quickly we clear passport control and customs checks. If we are late, we will use the coastal scenic motorway to reach Leon in plenty of time to check into our city centre hotel, the 5* Parador de Leon.
Friday 25th April | 6 hour drive 420km: The journey south sees us leaving Leon and heading through Galicia and Castile & Leon, where we cross over into Portugal for a lunch stop. Leaving lunch, we will be driving some rural roads that cross both Braganca and the Vila Real districts of Portugal to reach our hotel to check in for the night at the beautiful Vidago Palace, a proud member of the leading hotels of the world group! You will enjoy a four course group dinner in the stunning dining room, after you have had the chance to enjoy the luxury spa (Not included in package, approx 20 Euros per person).
Saturday 26th April | 6 hour drive 380km: The Ruta del Sol continues south to reach Portugal’s answer to the Stelvio pass, but before we leave the area there is the matter of the lesser-known Porsche test route to complete along the way. This 30km section of road is a real test for any GT car and is a perfect warm up for what is to come later in the day. Before we reach the Estrela though, you will have chance for both you and the car to cool off along the scenic N222, that runs along the shoreline of the Douro river.
The N222 has been voted ‘The Best Road in the World’ by Avis, this is debatable of course, but the 22kms that separate Pinhão and Peso da Régua are absolutely amazing! The 93 bends and frequently changing viewpoints make it a great warm-up for the roads to come in the Estrela National Parque, after we enjoy a pizza lunch. Leaving lunch it will be time to make your way into the Serra da Estrela. Once we reach the parque itself, we have planned a route with great roads that offer stunning views of the Estrela (weather permitting) on route to the beautiful Casa de Sao Lourenco. This five star paradise is perched on the side of the Stelvio-like pass overlooking Covilha, and will be your home for the next two nights.
Sunday 27th April | 5 Hour Drive 250km: As you will be at the hotel for two nights, today is the day for those early birds amongst the group that want to capture a sunrise over the Estrela peaks before breakfast. The official 5 hour planned route today includes, what we believe to be the best roads to enjoy in the parque! This includes both the Torre summit, the canyon leading up to the summit, and a road that holds joint top spot on our “Best roads in Europe” list, which we will do in both directions! However, if you wish to enjoy a lie in and pamper yourself in the spa, please feel free, it’s your holiday and you can meet us at any point during the day.
Monday 28th April | 6 Hour drive 380km: Departing down the mountain from the hotel, we will continue our Ruta del Sol south into the heart of the Alentejo region of Portugal, home to some of the finest olive oils and wines, and some fantastic fast sweeping rural roads that run through the Evora and Beja districts in this area of Portugal.
The hotel for the 5th night of the tour is of a prancing horse theme, but not our normal Ferrari or Porsche stallions! It’s actually the home of the thoroughbred Lusitano horses, and is considered the oldest stud farm in the world to operate uninterrupted in the same location since 1748! The hotel has both outdoor and indoor pool facilities and offers a great spa area to relax before enjoying another group dinner in the hotel’s restaurant.
Tuesday 29th April | 5 Hour drive 375 km: Leaving Alentejo, we will be heading down on some rural roads to our hotel in Serpa that allows great access to the Curcuito do Sol, venue for your sunset private track session. The re-modelled, re-surfaced track is a fantastic new members facility, similar to those found at Ascari in Spain that will give you a chance to really stretch the legs of your chosen stead, but beware there are many blind crests to treat with care while you learn the line!
This facility allows you to use your own car, or if you prefer to really treat yourself, you can hire a car from the circuit. They have anything from a race prepared Seat Cupra or Radical, right up to latest generation GT3 Cup Car or Ferrari Challenge car! As we have a late finish at the track we will be having a trackside BBQ for dinner in the F1 style motorhome, before the twenty minute drive back to the hotel in Serpa.
Please Note: All hire cars would be a supplement on the tour pricing, the inclusive track session is in your own car only.
Wednesday 30th April | 6 hours 430km: The last days drive is back into Spain, through the Andalucian hills to reach the Costa del Sol and the beautiful La Zambra resort, home to the 2023 hyper car tour. We will be experiencing many of the same great roads they did once we pass Seville and head down towards Ronda, for this final day of “Ruta del Sol” tour 2025. Once at the hotel it will be time to park up and relax and let us load the cars ready for their departure back to the UK.
If you have opted to take on Part 2 (see separate event booking here) of this epic loop through Portugal and Spain, then it will be time to park the cars up for a well earned rest, and head to the bar for a final few beers before your final group dinner of the tour!
Thursday 1st May : It will be time to say your final farewells over breakfast before heading for home.
Alternatively it will be to time to enjoy a well earned rest if you add a few days extension at this beautiful hotel in Mijas. Have a game of golf on the hotel’s two fantastic courses, or just chill out around the many pools before heading back to the UK. Please contact us if you require an extension as we can arrange this for you.
Please Note: Whatever options you choose you will need to make your own arrangements for onward travel home either by car or plane!
